A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (by Betty Smith) - best book I’ve read this year
Home – A Memoir (by Julie Andrews) – Loved it!
Mrs. Dalloway (by Virginia Woolf) – Not for me…apparently I’m not that smart
Belong to Me (by Marisa de los Santos) – really great new novel
‘Tis – A Memoir (by Frank McCourt) – really liked this one too
The Great Gatsby (by F. Scott Fitzgerald) – can’t believe I never got through this in high school
The Call (by Os Guinness) – in progress
The Kite Runner – still to read
To Kill a Mockingbird – still to read
Love Walked In – not nearly as good as the sequel Belong To Me. I stopped halfway through.
Friday Night Knitting Club – Chick Lit…and I loved it.
The Bridesmaids – very interesting story of the events surrounding Grace Kelly’s wedding.
Running With Scissors – Not my style. I closed it after three chapters. And that may mean I’m just not that sophisticated or whatever but I’ve decided I don’t care. To me it seemed like a waste of time. But that’s just me.
The Food Chain (a play) – very, very funny. And wrong. But funny.
Summer and Smoke (a play) – old school
The Time Traveler’s Wife – so many people recommended this book, but I found it very confusing and too difficult to keep up with where the characters were in time and in relation to each other. Give it a try; you might love it. It just didn’t work for me.
Eat Pray Love – I enjoyed this one. Her descriptions of the food in Italy make your mouth water. Her descriptions of her experience in India make you want to try yoga and meditation. And her descriptions of life in Indonesia make you glad our culture isn’t quite that complicated.
Sundays at Tiffany’s – in progress; loving it.

I cannot believe you graduated from public school without reading To Kill a Mockingbird! (Actually, I think I did too.) Anyway, this is probably my all time favorite book. Coming from an English teacher, that says a lot (at least it should). The movie with Gregory Peck is awesome and, in my opinion, can never be duplicated.
I have another book to lend you if you ever finish all the ones your working on. It’s called The Dante Club and is a very smart, murder mystery. I’ll give you all the details someday when we’re standing in the middle of the street like two crazy women with a rare form of turrets that causes us to yell, “Car!” every 3 or 4 minutes in the middle of a conversation. I’m tired. Better stop while I’m still barely coherent.
